Sustainable Solutions

Here at Civia we love finding environmentally friendly solutions to design problems.

We recently had our own design problem that needed a sustainable solution. After using a bamboo floor for our tradeshow booth for a number of years, the tongues and grooves were warped and worn and weren’t fitting together well—we found a loving home for the bamboo floor, while it could still be put together, and looked for a new one.

We considered comfort (for standing on it for long periods of time), style and sustainability. In the end, we purchased carpet tiles constructed from 80% post-consumer recycled face fibers that looks great and won't kill our feet on those long expo days.

 

The impact we have on the environment matters to us in everything we do, and we appreciate when it matters to others as well. Check out this article about two students from the University of Vienna who constructed an energy efficient house from 800 reused pallets—a beautiful design that is also environmentally responsible.
