The Long Route

Crabapples along the parkwayThis morning was perfect.  Great temperature, sunny skies, little wind.  I decided that I was going to take the longer route into work, which takes me down the paved trails on Minnehaha Parkway that follows the Minnehaha Creek.

Of course, I stopped by the neighborhood bakery and picked up a cinnamon swirl donut.  Mmm delicious.

This time of year is great because the tree leaves are new and their shade of green is very fresh.  Also, all of the flowering trees are going crazy.  There are a few spots along my route where the crabapple trees lining both sides of the trail come together to create a tunnel of color.

I came across four of my co-workers, also riding, on the way in.

The view from within a crabapple tunnelA good deal of the fun this morning was riding my singlespeed mountain bike with slicks.  It's geared at 2 to 1, so I spin out well before I'm working that hard.  It forces me to go slow and enjoy the experience, not simply getting from point A to point B.

I hope that each of you are able to gear down and enjoy your next ride.  It's a refreshing change of pace.
