Two Thousand Eight

2007 was a big year for my wife and me with our move from Minneapolis to Montpelier leaving behind many friends and family.  The move proved to be a challenge but overall has been great both personally and with working remotely from my home office.  It took several months to get settled in and I am finally getting out to explore the natural area around us.  My goal starting back in August was to not use my car for any commuting trips around town and with very few exceptions I have been successful.  Living in such a small community has made this goal very obtainable but I am still very happy that I have been able to live primarily without the use of our car.  The one place I have continued to drive to has been hiking trails and this leads me to my new goal that I hope to have success with in 2008.

I would like to do as much of the hiking and mountain biking as possible without the use of my car.  I have started to discover more and more of the extensive trail network that Vermont has to offer and much of it is accessible by foot or bike.  So in 2008 I am going to try and limit myself to 2 trips or less per month to hiking/biking trails by car.  I think the hardest part in obtaining this will be finding a way to get my dog with me on these hikes so I am open to any ideas people have had success with in transporting their pets with them via bike.  I am guessing that an enclosed trailer is the way to go but if you recommend one over another or have tips as to how to make this work better I am open.  Butcher (the dog) is a 70 lb lab mix and is still very open to new things.

I am also very excited for Civia and what 2008 is going to bring for us.  I would like to thank the dealers who have commited early to carrying the bikes and to all of those who have contacted us with interest in the brand.  Thanks and have a great 2008!
