Up Tempo
This morning, we had a good group at the Colossal Cafe. There were 9 of us in the small confines. Two were there just for breakfast, leaving 7 for the ride in. By now, I should understand that the ride is going to be more up tempo than I usually ride... Oh well, maybe it will sink in for next week.
I was a little over dressed. That combined with no water bottle made for a more demanding ride than my Friday legs wanted. The Hyland isn't designed for pacelines and sustained speeds in the mid-20's, but I was able to spin up in 8th gear and hold onto the wheel in front of me.
Changing topics, another of my sporting passions is golf. I live near Minneapolis' Hiawatha course and have again purchased the all-courses season pass. Meaning, I'm golfing after work a few times a week, and getting out at least once on the weekend.
Golf season arrived a little late this year to Minneapolis. The courses opened about two weeks ago and I've gotten out a handful of times. My handicap is just under 6, so I was shocked a couple rounds ago when I shot a 98. I haven't shot even close to 90 in the last year plus, then 100 was suddenly in play when I shot 50 on the front nine.
Every shot I took was really marginal. Couldn't drive... couldn't hit irons... couldn't putt... Depressing
Well, things came full circle last round when I lipped out a makeable birdie putt on 18 that would have given me a 3 over par 76. That 77 tied my lowest ever at +4, and was a personal best at Hiawatha. It's funny that seeing two 7's on a sheet of paper has improved my summer's outlook dramatically.
It's going to be a great season of riding and golfing.
