I started biking before I could walk—sort of. My mom and dad used to haul us kids around on the family tandem; my brother in a child seat and me strapped to my dad’s back in a baby carrier. So I never knew life without bikes.

Eventually, I graduated to a red Schwinn two-wheeler and then a 12-speed Schwinn road bike. I quickly learned to love the freedom that came from pedaling my way around. I felt as though I owned the roads in Saginaw, Michigan and could out run anyone on my bike.

Oddly, it was my love of soccer that got me more deeply involved with biking. I played a lot of sports as a kid, but when I got to high school a few of the seasons overlapped, so I focused on soccer. I kept playing right on through college. That’s where a few of my soccer friends introduced me to mountain biking. I bought my first off-road bike—a Gary Fisher Wahoo—and rode the Shiawassee Flats.

These days, I spend most of my time on the pavement, where I’ve acquired a new love of riding fast. While my riding style changes from time to time, my passion for pedaling never does. I ride for fun and fitness and the love of being outdoors. It’s great working for a company where everyone is so deeply committed to making bikes part of a healthier and more environmentally friendly way of life.
